What is Model United Nations (MUN)? Model United Nations, or MUN, is an academic simulation of the United Nations that includes discussion, negotiation, public speaking, and international affairs. At MUN conferences, participants, known as delegates, represent countries on various committees. Delegates participate in discussions on global issues, including world conflict, international security, human rights, and education. Through these exchanges, delegates can develop and refine skills such as collaboration, decision-making, critical thinking, and verbal communication. During a conference, delegates work together to cooperate and compromise, creating practical, innovative action plans to address the issues under discussion. These solutions are incorporated into a working paper and presented to delegates as a draft resolution. The draft resolutions are then amended in hopes of passing and becoming resolutions. While most MUN conferences last only a few days, delegates leave more interested in the United Nations and international affairs, and more aware of their rights and responsibilities as global citizens.
